Key concept recap
Introduction
A business enterprise is permitted by society to carry on industrial or commercial activities and earn profits. However, it is obligatory on the part of the enterprise not to engage in any practice that is undesirable from society's point of view. Practices such as manufacturing adulterated goods, deceptive advertisements, environmental pollution, and exploiting workers are socially harmful even if they increase profits.
In contrast, supplying quality goods, maintaining healthy working conditions, paying taxes honestly, and installing pollution control devices are socially desirable practices that improve both the image and the long-term profitability of business enterprises. It is through socially responsible and ethically upright behaviour that enterprises can achieve durable success.
