Summary Note
Key concept recap
Meaning of Financial Statements
Financial statements are the basic and formal annual reports through which corporate management communicates financial information to its owners and various external parties including investors, tax authorities, government, and employees. They refer to three key documents: the balance sheet as at the end of the accounting period, the statement of profit and loss, and the cash flow statement.
These statements are the end products of the accounting process and are prepared following accounting policies, accounting standards prescribed in the Companies Act, and accounting concepts and principles. They serve as sources of information on the basis of which conclusions are drawn about the profitability and financial position of a company.
