Key concept recap
Introduction
The Animal Kingdom contains over a million described species exhibiting enormous diversity in structure and form. Despite this diversity, all animals share certain fundamental features that serve as the basis of classification. These features include arrangement of cells, body symmetry, nature of coelom, and patterns of digestive, circulatory, and reproductive systems.
Classification helps in systematically organising animals into groups and also aids in assigning a proper position to newly described species. The broad classification of Animalia is based on common fundamental features, and each phylum or class has additional distinctive characters specific to it.
